Witch hunting became an industry that fed the judges and inquisitors. Witches were blamed for the weather, for mishaps, and tortured without due diligence on anyone's word, even children and felons who could not normally testify. Accomplices were named through torture. Where there was no torture, there were no witches. When they could not seize the witch's assets, there were no witches.

The witches were a group, an army, preventing God's grace. If only we could kill enough witches, earthquakes and killing frosts might not happen.
