But there's a pilot for autonomous bus service (very small buses) taking place on Treasure Island right now.
A fundamental issue is that these companies and the people involved in them - investors, c-suite, even engineers, have shown over and over and over that they don't care enough about policy and safety, are just focused on money for the most part, and are not honest and forthcoming about what they're up to. (The recent submersible thing is a good example, as is what's being said about the impact of Juul/vaping, etc.)
And I say all that as someone with a tech background whose son has worked for some of these companies.
