Was just thinking about one of the factors in "the death of RSS" that I surprisingly never hear about.
Content farms setting up monetized clones of everything you publish, with scarily good SEO because of how many clone sites they ran, all linking to each other.
It really, really sucked to get more pageviews on multiple scammers' sites than I ever did on my own site. And I know about it because I was still paying for all the image loads and I could see the referrer URLs in analytics.
This was around the same time that trackbacks/pingbacks became unusable because of all the spammers leveraging it to put ads on all your posts on your site.
