Does anyone still seriously think Mastodon is a viable mass market experience?

I just spent a few minutes trying to go from someone's blog post to their Mastodon account and ran into the eternal web client server authentication problem. I gave up at that point.

Federation is a hard problem. I personally don't mind Mastodon being quite challenging to use, but it's definitely not a mass market candidate.
