dream sequences
Whenever I utilize dreams—and I keep them to a minimum—they’re short, often a paragraph or two, but even more often a sentence.
Either they’re additional insight into the character’s current state-of-mind or act as foreshadowing.
I’ve encountered too many dream sequences that rehash, ruminate, serve as thinly veiled info dumps, or are flashbacks with glitter.
It properly serves the story or it shouldn’t be there.
