The public range at State Game Lands 205 west of Allentown, PA is fantastic! It's been rebuilt recently. There are separate areas for archery, clay pigeon shooting (with shotguns), handguns, a rifle range and a separate shotgun patterning range. There are at least 4 CLEAN portajohns at various points, plenty of parking, handicapped accessible parking, and sun covers over all firing lanes.
I was seriously impressed with everything.
It was a bit of a drive to get to, but I'm glad I selected this range for the day. The friend I took had only been shooting once ~6 years ago. She'd never shot a rifle or shotgun.
We started with pistols, going over range safety, how to hold a pistol, how to load and unload a pistol safely, how to load a magazine, and a bunch of other things that she had questions about. And then, she shot really well! I was seriously impressed!
After a while on the pistol range we shifted over to the shotgun range. I had brought my 20g with me, but... That was still too large for her since I had installed a full sized stock on it, and she's... Tiny. Well, at least compared to me. So no shotguns for her, which makes me a little sad as I love the versatility of shotguns.
Transitioning to the rifle range, I got her up to speed on the basics of how to safely work an AR15. She became acquainted with how annoying range neighbors with muzzle brakes can be. But then she proceeded to put a very respectable group on paper at 100yds. The shorter lanes were occupied, but it worked out very well! She really liked shooting the AR15. I count that as a total win.
She wanted to shoot pistol some more, so, we moved back over to the pistol range and fired off another box. I somehow managed to put together my best group ever with a pistol (I'm still learning how to shot a pistol properly), which was awesome!
Overall, we were there from ~0930-1500. We were having to much fun time flew. She is going to think about what kind of gun she wants to buy, as she's very good at budgeting and would want to have enough on hand safe storage, ammo, safety gear, etc. when she does buy a firearm (likely a pistol for now).
What a gloriously good day! đđđ
