Worthwhile thread here. I've always appreciated @anneapplebaum.bsky.social's writings on democracy/authoritarianism, but when it strays into things I know, like internet policy, it seems she could stand to do some more fact checking/research so as not to make basic errors like this.

@theatlantic.com's lack of fact checking in this article about (among other things) the need for fact checking is ironic. But mostly it's depressing. These tired, bad, and wrong tropes about platforms and the law are a big reason we don't get better laws.
