I have become tired of using no Google services and custom roms and things are not working as they should because of it so I've decided to go half way.

I will use the default android experience but I'm still going to opt to use open source alternatives wherever possible for instance firefox instead of chrome, secure email instead of gmail etc...

The world is always going to have mass surveillance and at the end of the day you can limit it but not stop or exclude it from your life entirely.
