You live in a context where certain things are “normal” now, but to completely erase that those things were vilified, even in your own lifetime, is a huge blind spot.
It gives you the illusion that you instinctively will “feel it” if it’s right. That you have some magical ability to rise above the prejudices of the day. This illusion then means you can pretend that you would’ve been on the right side of history at every turn. But odds are you wouldn’t. Odds are few of us would.
A Norwegian proverb goes «Du er deg selv nærmest» a translation of which could be: “You identify most with yourself”.
You might’ve been on the right side of things that affected you, but don’t be so sure about anything else.
