After responding to a social media post about strokes, I thought to send this PSA to this group.
Actually, there are TWO kinds of strokes. The one that results in the FACIAL DROOP, SLURRED SPEECH, and ARM WEAKNESS is called an 'ischemic' stroke -- meaning blood supply has been cut off from a portion of the brain. The second type of stroke is called a hemorrhagic stroke -- meaning a blood vessel in the brain has burst and is filling the cranial cavity with blood -- resulting in increased pressure on the brain tissue. THE CLASSIC SYMPTOM of a hemorrhagic stroke is the person SUDDENLY complains of "the worst headache I have ever had in my life." Because I knew the signs of a 'bleeding' stroke, I was able to get my wife to the emergency department. My rapid action to call 911 and (absolutely beyond question, God's miraculous intervention that evening) literally saved her life.
So, the point -- know the signs of either an ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke and call 911 immediately.
Remember: Time=Brain Tissue destruction.
