Considering the last post on the thread was from 2012, I imagine that any issues would've been upstreamed into the kernel by now. 
If you're ever in the mood to tinker, Alioth Fox (but you can call me Daddy~) (npub1wfj…jp6z), I'd just try putting something like Fedora on a LiveUSB, making sure libwacom is installed, and seeing if it works. It very well could be an issue with the VM being wonky.
