Wow, thats terrible. Just wondering what country you are in? I have lived (and rented) in 6 different countries and by far the most lopsided leases were in the UK. Seemed like no matter what happened I as a renter was responsible for it. Very weird.
Now back in Canada. I no longer rent but we do have a small suite we rent out. The standard BC lease makes me (the landlord) responsible for all maintenance other than consumables such as light bulbs. To me thats fair.
