This is a common misconception about Linux.
You can still get viruses, malware, and all sorts of shit that infects your computer.
What it comes down to is researching what you put on your device. Ensuring that whatever Linux distro you use has a trustworthy track record. With every single piece of software you install being open source straight from officially supported repositories too.
Even though it is by far the best operating system out there. With BSD based operating systems being a close second and a little more secure. Shit still happens on Linux and BSD. No operating system is invincible and you need to routinely patch your shit to stay secure from software vulnerabilities that happen every day.
Always be ever vigilant.
Run an antivirus software like ClamTK routinely if you are on Linux.
Always back up your files on external hard drives in case shit happens too.
