Somehow managed to track down the issue on the 486. But not exactly fix it. Seems to be related to the Cirrus Logic GD5428 drivers (any version). If I use default VGA the DOS prompt stops crashing.
Go back to Cirrus drivers, "This application has violated system integrity due to execution of an invalid instruction" and then an EMM386 "unrecoverable privileged operation" error/freeze.

Very strange that this wasn't happening before. I wonder what changed?
