yesterday i tried power tapping a few 3/8-16 holes using just coolant instead of tapping oil, and a harbor freight carbon steel tap, and let's just say it didn't go too well. the tap looks trashed. that tap magic tapping oil has much higher lubricity. i may try a cutting fluid called anchor lube instead. i think that stuff is water based so maybe it won't be a problem mixing with coolant
