I was actually thinking about this last week.

Why am I ok with code being stolen and open-source, but I would have a problem with a movie?

I think the main difference is that with programing you need a laptop and time and that's it you put it out there.

With a movie(or similar things) it also requires the tool and the time but on top you have to spend resources to actually create the thing.
Like you need to spend 10 dollars on a prop, so kinda feels wrong that someone did not spent that money and now used the footage.

Though I know they are both just information you put out there, I feel this is an important distinction, and not a phylosophical one, quite practical.

There is also the distinction that code, is instructions that will output something, the end is the output of the code, not the code itself, like the code is a tool itself.

But with a poster or something, that kinda is the output, that is the finished product in some way.
