The 2024 American Made Index by Cars.com reveals that there are no vehicles made in the US that are 100% American. The highest content percentage of American-made vehicles is 75%. Domestic automakers account for 34% of the index, while foreign automakers account for 66%. A separate consumer survey conducted by Cars.com shows that 56% of in-market car shoppers are willing to pay more for a vehicle if it creates more US jobs, with 58% of them willing to pay an additional 10%. The index also reveals that 51% of the vehicles named are built in the South by non-US-based companies using non-union labor. Tesla models accounted for three of the top ten vehicles in the index. The Ram Classic pickup truck made the biggest jump in the index, from 89 last year to 19 this year, due to increased domestic content and production moved from Mexico to Michigan. 39% of the vehicles on the index were built by union labor. The index evaluated over 400 vehicles based on assembly location, parts sourcing, US factory employment, and engine and transmission sourcing.
