The 21st edition of the Sharjah Poetry Festival, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, will launch on Monday next, the 6th of the current month, and will last for 7 days, with the participation of more than 70 poets, critics, and media representatives from Arab countries and a number of African countries. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Director of the Department of Culture in Sharjah, said: 'The Sharjah Poetry Festival has strengthened its creative presence over the past 21 editions, and has become a culturally significant event in the Arab cultural scene, in line with the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, who supports Arab poets and encourages them to produce more original Arabic poetry.' Al Owais added: 'The current edition will feature the participation of more than 70 creators from various Arab countries, united by their love of the word, and in addition to poetry recitals, the festival will include a component for signing poetry collections by a group of creators, and the Arab readers will be introduced to 12 new names of winners of the Golden Quafiyah Award, who have contributed to the publication of their poetic works in the Golden Quafiyah magazine during 2024. The festival will also be accompanied by a intellectual conference under the title 'Arabic Poetry from Stability to Change' to familiarize the audience with a series of research papers and critical studies on the most important issues related to Arabic poetry.' Al Owais pointed out that the current edition will honor two poets with the Sharjah Award for Arabic Poetry (13), who have made significant contributions to enriching the Arab library with a number of notable poetic works, namely: poet Talaal Al Jeneibi (UAE), and poet Hussein Abdullah (Syria). He also mentioned the participation of African poets representing Senegal, Mali, Niger, and Chad, stressing that hosting poets from African countries indicates the festival's openness to new poetic horizons and its support for Arabic poetry meetings in Africa. The opening ceremony will take place at the Sharjah Cultural Palace, where the festival will kick off with a documentary presentation titled 'Homes of Poetry' 10 years of giving, followed by poetry recitals.
