I'm perfectly fine with using (and advice new people) use a LN custodial wallet, like Wallet of Satoshi.  There's nothing wrong with that, as long as you're aware ir's custodial and you handle small amounts or use it while learning.


As for my experience with Phoenix is very different than yours.  I haven't had any problems with it at all, again, I also use it for small amounts, nothing too large, for which I keep using on chain transactions, with either Electrum or core.
