Wall Street Journal reports that the US sees an opportunity in #Israel's war on Lebanon to weaken Hezbollah politically in order to elect a Lebanese president of its choosing.

The report says that Saudi Arabia fully backs the US initiative, and that Secretary of State Antony Blinken called the leaders of #Egypt, #Qatar and Saudi Arabia to demand their support for the election of a new president.

The US has quickly shifted from claiming it wants to see a ceasefire in #Lebanon, to egging on the brutal war on the country.

Egyptian and Qatari officials reportedly told US officials that they view the #US plan as "unrealistic," and that Israel will never succeed in destroying #Hezbollah – the resistance movement will have to be part of any future political settlement.
