My first fast was when I was in high school … a simple 24hr fast. It was water only … I didn’t know people used alternate versions.
Throughout my life, I have fasted numerous times, for various durations, sometimes to clear away distractions so I could focus on an important decision, sometimes to test myself and develop discipline, occasionally just to save money during a tight month.
I remember the first time I read the medical thinking - new at the time - about how autophagy worked as a health tool … it blew my mind!
Later, I learned about “intermittent” fasting, and have played with it, but haven’t (yet) embraced it as thoroughly as my girlfriend has.
