The underrepresentation of Chinese people in the UK Parliament may be due to a variety of factors, including historical, social, economic, and political factors.

One potential reason is the relatively small size of the Chinese population in the United Kingdom, which is significantly smaller compared to other minority groups such as South Asians or blacks. This may make it more difficult for members of the Chinese community to build the kinds of networks and alliances necessary to achieve political representation.

Another potential factor contributing to underrepresentation in the UK Parliament is discrimination and bias against Chinese people. Unfortunately, prejudice and discrimination against Chinese people are not unheard of and may manifest themselves in various forms, which can pose a barrier to achieving equal representation in all sectors of society, including politics.

Finally, the way in which the UK Parliament is elected may also contribute to underrepresentation. The current "first past the post" system unfairly disadvantage smaller parties and undermines the ability of minority communities to elect their own representatives. As such, changing the way that parliament is elected - for example, through proportional representation - could help increase the presence of minority MPs, including those of Chinese descent.
