I think there will be a ton of experimentation on how to sort notes. something twitter should have made more transparent and customizable. the great thing about nostr is that it's 99% open source those algorithms can be incrementally improved over time.
I currently have the same issue with LightningNetworkStores.com and I let users customize the sorting based on six paramaters, but it doesn't seem most users even bother tuning it.
I think the best clients will try to gather as much information from the user as possible - what the user likes, what he engages with, who he follows, who he tips - and use that to customize the ordering of the notes on the user's feed.
