I don't know how Harley is perceived down under, as they are an "import" there. Here they survived by appealing to a jingoistic clientele or the rubs trying to generate street cred by riding their hogs to the bar on bike night. As their core base has died off, they have been forced into the new millennium. Building smaller, more technologically advanced bikes to try and develop a new base is a strategy they have been forced into.
