It might just further validate bitcoins value proposition because to the public this demonstrates large entities are now trying to control it. Depends on whether the attempt to control it works or not. I think at some time in the future there will be worse attacks than this. It may even become illegal to hold onto bitcoin in the USA. This happened with gold in 1933 it would not even be that different of a historical pattern.
