you are right.. perhaps we could find another word.
I think of paying taxes to nature when a mosquito takes my blood.

I know there were many ways to name the taxes. I can think some.
bono = good, bond
regalía = royalty
bonafide = good faith
abono = fertile soil
don = gift
suma = sum
bien= good
ayni (quechua)= reciprocity or mutuality

there might be many more.
but it's quite interesting how it starts to change in our psyche when we name it differently. Although
not all of them imply the compulsive mandatory nature of taxes.
