I was fascinated yesterday when the LWS group paid a brief visit to Speakers' Corner while the men shouted about God. When we arrived, a few men became distracted from their shouting about God to come and shout at us instead.
One young white chap was there screaming to us about how he was a woman, and not one of the Muslim men appeared to be upset about him being there. It's almost as if they know what a woman is.
Another middle-aged Muslim man kept shouting that women needed men (not that men needed women or that men and women needed each other). I refrained from reminding him that I probably wasn't his type, having left school many years ago and having been educated. I wonder where his wife was. We were the only women there.
What came across was the sheer entitlement of them being right and righteous and how much they despise any other ideas. It was palpable. And given what we know about the police, I don't think either of the two officers present would have been of any help had it kicked off. In fact, I can see the headline that we provoked it by daring to venture outside when we should have known better.
