I'm starting to wonder if the typical model of telemetry-based data-driven software #productmanagement is a mistake given how frequently it leads to a disregard for user privacy.

Given the choice is opt-in telemetry, which leads to poor sampling, or opt-out, which is privacy-hostile (yes, even when anonymized), maybe we should explore other ways to make our product decisions accepting that the result might be suboptimal choices.
