one interesting part it takes from the source material is that despite likely all being military officers, going to war is actually not what you want to do. Which is I guess quite unique for something that could be seen as a wargame. If you actually go to war you are now playing a different game for a while, with chances for advancement or death. Hopefully you soon enough come back to Paris. Where you have chances for advancement and death, but at least you die in Paris.
