i wrote a short essay on Cursive's 2003 album The Ugly Organ; this is one of my seminal youth records---a "soundtrack of my life" type album---so when i re-listened to it last night, a lot of thoughts started flowing in, and the dam broke. the essay covers a partial analysis of the music but moreso the themes of self-loathing and selling out. (also covers some embarrassing growing-up moments.)
