I have a single-user Mastodon instance I use for testing some stuff, but I would never use it for actually following/posting, because of these limitations.
If your goal is to *see content*, you need to choose a large-ish instance. This means I'm precluded from hosting my content myself. I love social.coop, but I'd love even more to have my identity on my own server, like I do with Bluesky.
