The bottom line is that the vast cohort of voters "in the middle" -- the ones who actually decide elections -- to a significant extent DO care about issues like global warming, but only as a non-primary concern, and way down the list. Global warming and other climate and "green" issues are "far future" items to most people -- while the cost of bread, their mortgage, and gasoline are primary and will override the others Every Single Time. Similarly, attempts by governments to force major changes in everyday life -- such as mandated EV adoption -- when half the country couldn't charge at home among many other concerns -- are seen as heavy-handed and open the door to acceptance of fascist alternative leadership. All of this should be obvious from even a casual study of political history.
