Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see any reason to think of Maven as social media. If there are no follows, then social connections between people aren't the basis for the network. They don't seem to be involved at all. Whereas corporate social platforms like Facebook and Twitter supplement social connections with algorithmic insertion, this is just algorithmic insertion without social connection.
