I actually liked Trump's stance on having NATO members pay their fair share. That being said, the 2% contribution was a guide, not a requirement.
However, if they can step up and match the 2%, something they are incentivized to do, that makes it harder for Trump to not support NATO.
If somehow the US does pull away from NATO, Europe will be better prepared to defend itself.
