a long time ago, I was leaving my job for a new place. On my last day, HR contacted me and asked if I'd like to do my exit early and leave at lunch. I said "yeah, but I really need to get paid for the full day, so I'll stay."
They said "under Arkansas law, the flip side of being overtime exempt is that, if you work one hour in a day, your employer is obligated to pay you for the full day. Don't tell anyone I told you that."
I repeat it to coworkers every chance I get.
