I remember saying at the time that a Democratic primary could have created a much greater contrast with Orange Stalin's style of leadership, which GoP reputation laundries were protecting onto Biden.

It would likely have created more public awareness of the policy diversity among the party's supporters (more pluralistic is and looks more democratic). As well as a sense of how the nominee could speak to and unify the various factions. Which Biden, to his credit, actually did quite well in 2020.
