Palestinian journalist Bisan Owda returns home to northern Gaza after 15 months of war
Published on Feb 12, 2025
After surviving 15 months of Israeli bombardment, Palestinian journalist Bisan Owda is finally able to go home.
Since the ceasefire deal, more than 500,000 Palestinians have now travelled back to northern Gaza. Before October 7, 2023, most of Gaza’s population lived in northern Gaza, and Gaza City was the largest urban area.
Bisan’s journey would usually have only taken 40 minutes, but it took her more than 24 hours to travel there.
When Bisan finally made it to her family home in Beit Hanoon, 10km (4.5 miles) from Gaza City, she found her house heavily damaged. One of the first things she did was hang a Palestinian flag from her balcony.
