The West slope of the Rockies in ID is really nice and the weather is a lot better than east of there in MT. I did some work in Sand Point once and really like the area. That's on the list if we decide to not stick here. Since you are in your family rearing and working years, a big question is what you are going to do for work. This probably means being near some trendy tourist town if you want to cash in on the construction/hospitality type of thing. If you are Tech and can telework I guess anywhere will be fine.
