The "historical precedent" argument is very much bullshit - almost every goddamn country in the world could have a few claims on their neighbors based on that. It's specially baffling in case of Russia, which currently own a whole bunch of land that historically didn't belong to them. My only question is if Putin truly believes that to a point of self delusion, or if he's just playing that card very cynically in hopes that some people just nod in agreement because they don't know History.
