This story of Catholic priests in Germany blessing same-sex couples in defiance of church officials reminds me of something another German priest told me some years back. He said,

"We bless fields, water, food, dogs, cats, rabbits, tractors, guns, ships.

But we are not allowed to bless two men or two women who love each other."

The Catholic church remains in its institutional form, sad to say, a bastion of patriarchal homophobia.
