Hey, I did my first degree with the Open University (and a latter, MA), an MA in an out-station of the University of Kent & my PhD at Nottingham Trent Uni (just after it became a Uni)... worked for 8 years at a post-92 uni (UWE) before landing a Prof. at what was to become a top-ten (but non-Russel Group) university while I was there - I retired three years ago...

My entire academic life involved watching the less-able, but oxbridge connected get better opportunities than me....
