My novels are probably the least explicitly philosophical things I've written (for the philosophical version, see the short story here: http://ehlupton.com/WiscGothicExtras/Dous11July24.pdf) But I think there's something in general about choosing joy when things get tough. I don't know, go read the book. If I could articulate it well in <500 characters, I wouldn't have written 80k words about it.
