I love Bertolucci’s 1970 film adaptation (starring the goat, Jean-Louis Trintignant) and this is so far great as well. “A weak-willed Italian man becomes a fascist flunky who goes abroad to arrange the assassination of his old teacher, now a political dissident.” Big fan of when the source material and adaptation both excel (2001, No Country for Old Men - what are some others?). I wish the same could be said for Bertolucci’s adaptation of Paul Bowles’ opus, The Sheltering Sky…
