This week has been still and clear in Ōtautahi-Christchurch city, NZ. That's perfect conditions for the city's winter inversion layer to form. That traps cold frosty air near the ground capped by warmer air.
We're fortunate to live at 190 m asl, above the inversion, and I bike down through the inversion layer on my way to work. Here's my note from yesterday morning, as the temperature dropped from ~8ºC to 0ºC almost instantly, at about 60 m asl.
