I have absolutely pissed off some banks/c.c.'s when they have called me and asked me to verify things. I say, "This seems exactly like what your organization warns me against." Them: "But I'm giving you information, not asking for it." Me: "I don't know how you got it. You might be trying to get me to confirm something by voice." I insist they give me their name and extension and call the website or card-printed number.
