NASA Astronomer Sees Power in Community, Works to Build More
==========
Dr. Natasha Batalha, an astronomer at NASA’s Ames Research Center, collaborates with her teams to study exoplanets using NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope. Her work explores hot, Jupiter-like exoplanets, smaller rocky exoplanets, and brown dwarfs. Batalha is driven by the question of whether life exists beyond Earth and believes in the power of community to solve this question. She was inspired by her parents, who are also scientists, to pursue a career in astronomy. Batalha builds open-source tools to help scientists interpret data from Webb and is part of a team that detected sulfur dioxide in the atmosphere of exoplanet WASP-39 b. She believes in empowering her science community and passing on the baton to future generations in the search for life beyond Earth.
