The mistake made by EU in its effort to pass the dystopian Chat Control is that is uses battling CSAM as the justification. European socialists/statists are not so sensitive on this matter. EU should have argue that it pursues this mass surveillance measure in order to find and root out those nasty far-right people, Russian spies and the such. This would have done the job without any resistance. "You don't like chat control? What are you, some kind of nazi?"
