I thank god for a uni history prof i had who started a lecture on the Weimar Republic runaway inflation predicament by holding up a $20 bill and proceeding to explain how the note only had value to the extent that people believed it did. Otherwise, despite the fancy artwork, it was merely a worthless piece of paper. He explained how the ease of its creation made it susceptible to inevitable human instincts to make more and more of them, whenever needed, thus leading to inflation. It was the most riveting, fascinating and eye opening lecture I can ever remember. You could hear a pin drop throughout the lecture hall, such was the degree to which the audience was so captivated by the subject. From that day onwards, my view on money was forever changed, and I credit that seed of wisdom for helping me be curious about bitcoin and to understand the basic principles, even though I am forever learning about it. I only wish everyone could have a similar paradigm shifting aha event related to the concept of money, and am wondering how a so called normie can get there. I believe a starting point would be getting the masses to truly understand the ramifications of having a centralized authority being able to expand the money supply with no limits. I don’t think many ordinary people grasp this basic concept. And I believe if the majority of normies did actually understand this concept, it’d be game over for fiat much much more quickly. Anyways, shoutout to Dr.Fitzgerald for delivering that masterclass lecture on the psychology/philosophy of money!
