Cat poni, Whorseman of Apocalypse (npub1vse…v7q2) i know OMEMO as used in XMPP encrypts attachments before uploading and then includes the symmetric key in a part of the url that stays on the client (I think they used the #fragment, but it may've been something custom instead).
if Matrix folks didn't think of it, that'd be lame
