What an absurd way to open a paper on a variant whose first prole is going on to conquer the globe. I guess it shows the pressure these researchers are under to obtain funding. I also blame #Cell, which should be above politicized nonsense like 'pandemic' vs 'endemic'. It pains me to think that the person(s) that wrote that line might receive public funds. They do not deserve them.
